About
Dr. Sally Carlisle is a DNP-prepared nurse educator, academic leader, and Certified Nurse Educator with more than 15 years of experience in nursing education, faculty development, curriculum design, assessment, and academic leadership. Her work focuses on strengthening teaching effectiveness through inclusive teaching practices, advancing student success, supporting clinical judgment development, and preparing nurses and nurse educators for the evolving demands of health care and higher education.
Dr. Carlisle currently serves as Director of Professional Development and Academic Excellence in the School of Nursing at ³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ University. In this role, she leads faculty development and academic quality initiatives. She also supports NCLEX readiness, clinical judgment integration, faculty onboarding, and academic-practice partnerships. Her recent work includes co-directing the Health Equity Influencers Program for Nurse Educators, an initiative designed to strengthen educator preparation, support effective teaching practices, and prepare nurse educators to address health equity in academic and clinical learning environments.
A nationally recognized leader in nursing faculty development, Dr. Carlisle has designed and scaled professional development programs across multi-site nursing and health professions education settings. Her work includes the Nurse Faculty Fellowship Program, Master Instruction curriculum series, new faculty onboarding programs, simulation faculty development, and continuing education focused on evidence-based teaching, assessment quality, inclusive teaching, health equity, and implicit bias. She has served as an ANCC Nurse Planner and has led successful National League for Nursing Center of Excellence applications recognizing excellence in faculty pedagogical development and student learning.
Dr. Carlisle is also a leader in the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in nursing education. She is co-founder and Nurse Planner for AI Nurse Nexus and co-editor of Nursing Education in the AI Era: Practical Guidance for Educators to Advance Equitable Care with Springer Nature. Her AI-related work includes faculty development on generative AI, AI-supported NCLEX-style item writing, lesson planning with ChatGPT, and ethical use of emerging technologies in nursing education. She also co-led the inaugural AI in Nursing Education Symposium for New York State.
Dr. Carlisle’s scholarship, presentations, consulting, and national service center on faculty development, clinical judgment, assessment quality, health equity, inclusive pedagogy, and innovation in nursing education. Her national service includes the AACN Ecosystem of Excellence in Academic Nursing Committee, AACN Foundation for Academic Nursing Faculty Scholars Grant review, the National League for Nursing LEAD Fellowship, NLN Centers of Excellence consultation, the Wolters Kluwer DEI Advisory Board, and the Advisory Board and Review Council for the American Board of Nursing Artificial Intelligence. She was selected for induction as a Fellow in the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education in September 2026.
